Vince Carter Postgame Quotes: Q : On winning the gold medal: "This was a wonderful experience and I'm glad I was selected and given the opportunity to be here because this was a dream come true and the chance of a lifetime. It was everything that I thought it would be and more. You don't know what it's like to win the gold medal until you do it. "Just to keep it going. We didn't make it this far to quit and if we were going to lose we were going to go out fighting." Q : On his defensive effort: "I just wanted to do whatever I could for the team whether it's playing defense, rebounding the ball or scoring. Tonight it was defense and that's a great feeling for me. It's a different part of my game that I don't get much recognition for." Q : On the other teams: "Basketball has evolved and come a long way. I'm proud of the way we played. I have a lot of respect for France and Lithuania because they pushed us to the edge." Q : On being the youngest player and having the team turn to him in clutch situations: "It feels good. Looking at guys like Steve (Smith), Jason (Kidd), guys who have been in those situations more times than I have, for them to have that confidence in me is one thing that I will always remember. In a critical situation with some of the greatest players to play the game in the world, at that time they looked at little old me to get a basket. Or they wanted me to go in there and ge some stops. I'm just glad I was able to respond in a positive way." Q : Did you think, six weeks ago, that you would be in this role? "I was just coming here to fit in and whatever I was asked to do, that's what I was going to do. I was able to step up, step my game up on both ends of the floor. And here's the result (the gold medal)." Q : On knowing and playing against some of the international players: "Oh it's been wonderful. It's been wonderful seeing some of the guys I've played against in college. Like Sean Marks, I played against him and we were just on the same team last year. Things like that. I enjoy that and I enjoy being here because this means a lot. Some people take it for granted. But if you really sit and think about it, you're playing for your country. A lot of basketball players don't ever get the opportunity to be here and a lot of athletes never get the opportunity to participate in the Olympics. That's a wonderful thing for me."
