Vince Carter represented the Nets in the All-Star Game in Denver, and
although his season started slowly, he certainly earned his spot as one
of the elite players in the NBA with his play since joining the Nets.
The Nets knew they would be getting one of the games most explosive
scorers when acquiring Carter, but what has been a surprise is Carter's
ability to pass and make his teammates better.
As Coach Lawrence Frank said in a recent New York Times article, "You
just don’t appreciate what he can do until you see him, I didn’t know
he was nearly as good a passer as he is." He’s got vision that not many
people have.”
At one time in basketball, the point guard was considered to be the
playmaker of a team. Today, the point guard has been separated into what
we call "true" point guards and "scoring" point guards. So, teams are not
necessarily counting on their point guard to be the playmaker, because as
Vince Carter has proven by averaging 6.2 assists in his last 10 games
before the All-Star break, any player can serve his team as a playmaker.
I think it may be the best group of ten to fifteen players in the NBA, and
here is who I would want as my playmaker.

3) Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers
4) Dwayne Wade, Miami Heat

7) Vince Carter, New Jersey Nets
Until a month ago, Vince would have been off this list, but now that he is
healthy and feeling appreciated again, Vince has shown why he is one of the
league's best. In the Nets offensive system his passing skills has been on
display averaging 5.1 assists since being traded, and he is shooting a high
percentage because he is going to the basket again. When Carter plays
fearlessly attacking the basket, he is the leagues most creative finisher.
This is a hard list to move up, but if Vince can continue to play at this
high level every night, it would be hard not to move him up the ladder.
