What's your impression of living in New Jersey thus far? - Katherine, Jersey City, NJ I've been here before so I know my way around. I played AAU ball in Paterson, NJ with Tim Thomas back in my high school days. So I knew what to expect. The word has always been Jason Kidd makes everyone better. How has Jason Kidd made you better, specifically? -- Bob, New Jersey It's hard to say. He draws so much attention that teams tend to forget about me and the other players. We complement each other in that respect. But I really admire his willingness to win and how he comes ready to play every game. He puts the ball in your hands in positions where you can do nothing but succeed. Making the basket is the easy part playing with JKidd All you have to do is be ready, everything else is easy. Did the coaches have a talk with you about how best to play you when you arrived? It seems that they've gradually gone away from the motion offense since you came to New Jersey, and that has allowed you to flourish. - Sid, Marietta GA The new situation in itself has helped me. (Coach Frank's) offense is more wide open, and it makes teams pay and think more. I still get double-teamed, but in this offense the help comes a little late. I can still get to the basket and still make good plays. It's a very difficult offense to learn and difficult to stop. But it's great on this side of the ball. How would you compare Coach Frank to the other coaches you've played under, in terms of attitude, preparation and ability to get the most out of his players? - Dumpy, Washington, DC I don't like to compare coaches because coaches have their own styles. Coach Frank is a hardworking guy. He's fiery and he loves to win. He wants the best for everybody, not just his starters. He pushes us. He gets on me, he gets on JKidd, he gets on everybody. He is a smart guy. I had an opportunity to speak with him before I came and he asked me things like 'where I like to call on the court' and 'what position I like to play.' Basically just feeling me out. So the transition was much easier for me when the day came to step on the court. What player is most capable and successful at guarding you? - Tara, Saddle River, NJ It's not really a matchup but a team. Some teams will play one-on-one because they feel their guy can guard you. Some teams like to play help-side defense and always have a guy there to help out. Teams that try to disguise different defensive looks like that are usually the most difficult. Do you still get a faint smile every time you see the Sydney 2000 dunk over Frederic Weis? - Andrew, Sydney, AUS It has gone from a big smile to a smirk. When I see it now I just revert back to that day and what was going on at that moment. It's has been talked about here because JKidd was there. To hear his version of it kind of brings a smirk to my face. Would you ever compete in a dunk contest again? - Dontae, Los Angeles, CA Who knows. People put too much emphasis on doing it. I think that's why a lot of guys now are not participating. They are trying to make guys like LeBron, Kobe and T-Mac do it. We are constantly being asked to participate. That's why these guys shy away from it. Let the guys be in it if they choose to. Then I think you'll get more of the so-called top dunkers in the competition again. http://www.netsdaily.com/features/carter_qna_02-05.html
