偶然逛到這篇文章

其中引用了愛因斯坦的一段話:
I fully agree with you about the significance and educational value of
methodology as well as history and philosophy of science. So many people
today -- and even professional scientists -- seem to me like somebody who has
seen thousands of trees but has never seen a forest. A knowledge of the
historic and philosophical background gives that kind of independence from
prejudices of his generation from which most scientists are suffering. This
independence created by philosophical insight is -- in my opinion -- the mark
of distinction between a mere artisan or specialist and a real seeker after
truth. (Einstein to Thornton, 7 December 1944, EA 61-574)
但是我很好奇,有人修過理工科系的課,
課堂上有提到歷史跟方法論的嗎︊這對你或妳的學習有幫助嗎?
我修過的課當中很少,
數學系的陳俊全老師的線性代數是有的。
例如,在歷史方面,有介紹對於四維以上的空間,和虛數的真實性的爭論,
老師有提出一些理由,但不知道是不是他自己想出來的,
還是借用別人的。連課本都有附上historical note
方法論方面,老師有提到,將歐氏空間中的dot product抽象成
inner product operation in a inner product space,
是在用ㄧ種較抽象的方式,釐清dot product的必要性質。
而能用inner product的四個較抽象的定義能夠證明較抽象的
三角不等式,表示了先前挑選的必要性質是合適的。
我相當同意愛因斯坦說的,歷史和方法論方面的知識讓人比較能夠看到樹林,因此,
比較有學習的方向感。因此,我覺得這方面適當份量的知識,是有助於學習的。
這可以說是大處著眼。但是另一方面,我認為這也常常讓人流連忘返,
忘了要多做些題目,也就是忘了要小處著手。如果只談歷史和方法論方面的知識,
會忽略了如何處理具體的數學問題,而這是理解數學的一個必要條件。
因為,不懂如何處理具體的數學問題常常使得哲學家,或一般人,
對數學定理有過度的,或錯誤的詮釋。
戈德爾的不完備定理大概是一個典型的例子吧。
好像有些離題了~~~~>_<"
