因為大陸漂移的緣故，被冰河所阻絕，所以南極，甚至南半球，很少有熊的蹤跡

 became isolated by glaciers.

至於企鵝

原始大陸破裂後 南極大陸就被水包起來
全世界有17種企鵝，統統都生活在南半球。不過牠們並非如我們一般所想像的侷限在南極
，而是廣泛分布在南美洲沿海、澳洲南部、南非、紐西蘭和南極圈等地區。

企鵝的祖先是會飛的，但由於長時間專注於水陸兩棲的生活適應，牠們的身體構造已經
演化成很適合潛泳，而犧牲了飛行的能力。
因為無法飛行，再加上氣候的關係  自然無法飛越南半球
