Until now, R&B crooner Joe has best been known for his spotlight work on Mariah Carey's "Thank God I Found You." His third and latest record is one of those frisky, smoldering R&B romance records that emphasizes the singer's Way With the Ladies. Joe is full of sultry, Barry White-like bravado and high-profile cameos: Carey shows up for a remix of "Thank God," and 'NSync makes an appearance on the record's finest track, "I Believe in You." Neither act does much to raise the level of musical discourse: The record's reliance on female background moaning is frankly a cheesy framing device that went out with Keith Sweat. It's unclear just what put the unnamed women of Joe into such a froth -- and probably better not to imagine -- but it's a safe bet that it wasn't lyrics like "My name is Joe / Please don't go. " As a swordsman, Joe may be just fine; as a lyricist, he's going to have to do better. Allison Stewart -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.twbbs.org) ◆ From: 140.112.7.68
