Montell Jordan grew up in Los Angeles,
where his grandfather gave him his real introduction to music.
In elementary school, he gave Montell a saxophone.
Montell started playing, then moved on to learn the piano
and start singing in the church choir.
He continued to improve his musical skills while he attended
Pepperdine University. After college, he worked briefly in advertising,
but his success in a weekly talent showcase spurred him to pursue a career
in music. On his album "Let's Ride",
Montell Jordan shows how he's continued to develop his smooth R&B vocals.
