Shania Twain's "Come On Over" (Mercury) has been certified for sales of 17
million in the U.S., making it the best-selling solo album by a female artist,
according to the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA). The album is
tied as the fifth-best-selling single CD release with the soundtrack to "The
Bodyguard," behind titles from the Eagles, Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, and
Fleetwood Mac.
"Come On Over," which has sold over 26 million copies worldwide, according to
the label, is at No. 30 on The Billboard 200 this week, after 123 weeks on the
chart. The album continues to earn Twain major recognition. Last weekend, she
won best songwriter and best country female artist honors at the Juno Awards,
which celebrate the best in Canadian music.
Twain is nominated in the entertainer of the year and top female vocalist
categories for the Academy of Country Music Awards, to be held May 3 in Los
Angeles.
