World No. 1 Rory McIlroy was out working on his game at Augusta National Golf
Club on Monday, as was Tiger Woods, who played late in the day alongside old
pal Mark O’Meara. Where was Matt Kuchar tuning up? A few hours away along
the coast of Georgia – on a tennis court, of all places!
At The Cloister on Sea Island, Kuchar joined five-time Wimbledon champion
Venus Williams in an exhibition tennis match against the formidable doubles
duo of Murphy and Luke Jensen. Kuchar and Williams won the match.
Kuchar, expected to arrive in Augusta on Tuesday, will be competing in his
ninth Masters this week. He has finished T-8 or better in each of his last
three starts here, including a tie for third in 2012.

Matt Kuchar has captured one victory this week: He and Venus Williams won a
celebrity doubles match Monday against Luke and Murphy Jensen at the Cloister
Tennis Center in Sea Island, Ga.
Kuchar qualified the victory (he and Williams won 6-3 in the one-set
exhibition) and said it was hit-and-giggle tennis.
“We had fun out there and at one point Luke Jensen pulled a girl out of the
stands and she played one game for him,” Kuchar said. “No one was really
worried about winning or losing.”
Kuchar said he enjoyed the experience of playing with Williams, a five-time
Wimble- don champion. He said she still has some fuel in the tank.
“She pounded a couple,” he said.
