Venus Williams Plans 2008 Amelia Island Return

Amelia Island Plantation will play host to the Bausch & Lomb Championships in
April, featuring two of America’s biggest stars, Venus Williams and Lindsay
Davenport.
The Bausch and Lomb Championships announced on Wednesday that 2007 Wimbledon
champion Venus Williams has been added to their player field.
Defending champion Tatiana Golovin of France is also expected to compete at
the 29th annual tournament to be held April 7–13 in Florida.
“As we celebrate our 29th year, the Bausch & Lomb Championships has
consistently delivered quality player fields. Having Lindsay and adding
Golovin and Venus sets us up for another great draw. We are excited for April
and pleased to have three past champions return to Amelia Island,” stated
tournament director, John Arrix.
Playing in her second career tournament on green clay, Tatiana Golovin wowed
fans with her exceptional 2007 Bausch & Lomb Championships play and her
career first singles title.
As one of the most successful players on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, Venus
Williams enters the 2008 Bausch & Lomb Championships having amassed 36 Tour
singes titles, including six Grand Slams (2000,’01,’05,’07 Wimbledon, 2000,
’01 US Open), an Olympic gold medal in both singles and doubles (2000), a
winner of 10 doubles titles including six Grand Slam titles and a winner of
two Grand Slam mixed doubles titles.
With this outstanding trio of champions headlining the singles draw, the 2008
Bausch & Lomb Championships promises a star-studded field of tennis greats
competing in one of the crowning events of women’s tennis.
