[pps] During a press conference at the Hotel InterContinental in Berlin,
Sheikh Mohamed Bin Faleh Al Thani promised the strongest field of entries of
the past three years for the 2007 Qatar Telecom German Open (May 7-13, 2007):
"I assume that we will be able to present perhaps ten of the Top Ten players.
However, we will definitely have eight of the Top Ten", the President of the
Qatar Tennis Federation announced on Thursday. "Last year's winner Nadia
Petrova of Russia, the three-time German Open winner Justine Henin of Belgium
and US-player Serena Williams have already entered the event", disclosed
Sheikh Mohamed.
The Qatar Telecom German Open will definitely be carried out at the venue of
the tennis club "LTTC Rot-Wei?" at Berlin Grunewald. However, in the course
of the realignment of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour as of 2009, the organisers
want to do their utmost to remain in Berlin. "We will fight to keep the event
as a Tier 1 tournament", said Sheikh Mohamed. The overall prize money of the
2007 Berlin tournament amounts to 1.34 million US$.
