An Interview With:
VENUS WILLIAMS
SABINE LISICKI defeats VENUS WILLIAMS
6-4, 7-6 (5)
3rd Round
KEVIN FISCHER: Go ahead with questions for Venus.
Q. Venus, I want to take you back a while. 1992 was the first time you played
in the Family Circle Cup. I want to know if you remember your experience then.
VENUS WILLIAMS: I was only 12 in '92.
Q. That's true. I have a picture of you doing that.
VENUS WILLIAMS: Yeah. I think I just played an exhibition match.
Q. That's true.
VENUS WILLIAMS: Yeah. It was fun.
Q. What do you carry on from even the early days that still helps you today?
VENUS WILLIAMS: I don't know. I imagine all the hard work I did then pays off
now.
Q. Seemed like you had a hard time getting your first service in. Was that a
problem today?
VENUS WILLIAMS: You know, I don't know. I just, you know, made a few errors
at the wrong time, and she played some great shots.
Q. Do you think if you had gotten it to a third set, it would have been
different, you would have had the advantage if it had gotten to a third set?
VENUS WILLIAMS: Yeah. I would have loved to have gotten to a third set, and
I'd like to think I would have had the advantage.
Q. Do you think you were tired after yesterday, that two-and-a-half hours?
VENUS WILLIAMS: It was a long match, but that's tennis. You come back and
play the next day. So I am prepared to do that.
Q. Were you surprised to the way she was able to step up to the challenge
each time with the big serve, especially the last couple games seemed to be
the difference-maker for her.
VENUS WILLIAMS: Yeah. She did. She did all of that.
Q. How upsetting to go out of the Family Circle Cup so early?
VENUS WILLIAMS: Yeah. I wasn't expecting that, and you know, I'll try to come
back next year and win.
Q. You're not playing Fed Cup next week. Is there a reason why you're not
playing?
VENUS WILLIAMS: It doesn't fit into my schedule.
Q. When is your next competition?
VENUS WILLIAMS: I'll be playing in Rome.
