Serena Williams 17 May 2013
Q: Talking about the placement of Rome in the schedule ….. a couple of weeks
before the French Open. I mean, you pulled out last year and Maria this year
S. Williams: Its definitely taking a chance and sometimes you might feel
like preparing well for the Roland Garros which is probably the most
difficult Slam to win and you want to give yourself the best chance and
sometimes this is what you have to do.
Q: So – what's your goal when you play in Rome or Cincinnati or Brisbane ……
to get match play or win or what?
S. Williams: Its difficult because they are all important and Brisbane is a
little different because it’s the first in the year and I like to have those
couple of matches early in the season and they are great tournaments and we
all like to play and we also do what is best for our health as well.
Q: Well done on the 22 nd consecutive win in the last months from Wimbledon
until now …. Do you thin that this is the best period in your career.
S. Williams: I guess but I don't think about it. Maybe – I have been pretty
consistent and healthy -- knock on wood -- so maybe yes.
Q: I asked you that because many people probably though we had seen the best
of you and so, turning 30 has been no grief.
S. Williams: Never felt better and healthy and younger.
Q: Did Venus buy all of those hats yesterday?
S. Williams: The past few days she has been in hat mode: She has been in all
the foregrounds and I was in the background. She loves to shop so I was a
little disappointed.
Q: So she is going to bring back a bunch of hats. What do you take back…
S. Williams: Usually something that goes on my ass (…Laughter).
