Serena Williams Exits Seat Open
LUXEMBOURG (AP) -- U.S. Open champion Serena Williams withdrew from the Seat
Open today, saying she was exhausted from three straight weeks of tennis. She
could be fined for pulling out of the event so late.
The top-seed Williams had a first-round bye and was scheduled to play her
first match Thursday, but she said flying from the United States and playing
another tournament this week would be too much.
She played in the Fed Cup matches over the weekend.
``I feel I cannot make the journey this week, as I am mentally and physically
exhausted after three consecutive weeks of tennis,'' she said in a statement
released by the WTA.
