An interview with: Venus Williams
Q: So Venus – just tell us how it went today?
WILLIAMS: You know – it was different than last week – I sort of had to
make some adjustments to get used to this court and you know with my history
of playing her two times before, I was really happy to go to two sets…I was
happy to have two sets and it was kind of windy and with the shadows, it was
kind of tough to see the ball and it made it very difficult and so I was
happy that I finished it well.
Q: …[inaudible]….wearing different colours. What do you think about that or
do you think you should respect the traditions of Wimbledon?
WILLIAMS: Oh, it’s the Olympics and so it won't be Wimbledon so that what is
makes it different and we will be wearing team colours.
Q: OK – so red, white and blue?
WILLIAMS: Yes, red white and blue and hopefully gold……
Q: It is a long clay season for you and going into the Olympics and Wimbledon
… is it good practice?
WILLIAMS: Is it good practice?
Q: Yes, the long clay season, is it good having longer practice for you going
into Wimbledon and the Olympics?
WILLIAMS: I just go day by day. I just go there and try and win the match and
then go into the next one and try and win…
Q: …[inaudible]….
WILLIAMS: Oh, I think my Italian has improved since that time. Giardino and
cane are my favourite words.
Q: Just looking at the ………….. in the past few years with the constant
change at the top …[inaudible]….
WILLIAMS: I just look at it this way – somebody has just got to win and
somebody just has got to lose and so someone won and someone lost and this is
pretty much what happened
Q: …[inaudible]….
WILLIAMS: I was joking but it is not something that is on my radar at the
moment – who is at the top, who made it, and so on……So, guess what! I'm
not on the top at the moment, Its good to be number 16.
Q: …[inaudible]….
WILLIAMS: I never when out with anyone who went to such a wonderful school.
Maybe one day I'll get in there.
Q: What do you think about Serena who is not the number 1 now but when she
plays with the number 1, Azarenka she wins easily.
WILLIAMS: I mean she played amazing last week – she played great tennis. I
think it is like what you see – she is great. Everyone else is great too but
she is great.
Q: Do you think this tournament is the biggest clay tournament that you play
or …[inaudible]….
WILLIAMS: Oh, this is probably the biggest and it has a lot of history and it
was nice to get away here……that was nice. I'd probably do it again.
