小威宣布他在今年剩下時間所參加的比賽 只要發出一記ace就捐出100美金捐助在美國Katrina颶風中受災的居民 不過他美網兩場比賽只有發出三記Orz Serena serves up Hurricane Katrina relief effort Wed Aug 31, 9:53 PM ET NEW YORK (AFP) - Seven-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams pledged to donate 100 dollars for every ace she serves for the rest of the year to relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Williams announced her plan to the crowd at the National Tennis Center after her second-round victory at the US Open tennis championships. "I would like to thank everyone for coming out," she said. "The hurricane that happened in New Orleans and Mississippi - it has been such a tragedy down there. "I've decided for every ace I hit I'm going to donate 100 dollars for the rest of the year for every tournament I play." Later she elaborated on the decision. "On TV, every channel I watched, even ESPN, they have all this coverage over the hurricane, all the damage it's done," she said. "Last year we in Palm Beach got hit really bad. "That was like a Category two, three maybe at the most. It was devastating down there. "I can only imagine what it must be in New Orleans, especially looking at all the footage, all the rain, all this horrible stuff. I thought it would be just a halfway decent gesture." Hurricane Katrina struck the US Gulf Coast on Monday, leaving hundreds dead. US President George W. Bush has called the storm one of the worst natural disasters in the nation's history. Immediately after Williams's announcement, tennis great John McEnroe pledged to donate 25,000 dollars to relief efforts and urged others involved in the sport to do what they could. Serena Williams, however, said she did not intend her gesture to goad others. "It's totally up to them," she said. "This is just the way I feel about it. I've always considered myself a philanthropist in a little bit of a way." Her attitude was in contrast to that of her sister, Wimbledon champion Venus Williams, who earlier in the day seemed hardly aware of the devastating storm. "I don't really watch the news," Venus Williams said. In some ways I'm very unaware of the latest happenings in the world." Serena Williams said she wouldn't be trying to convince her sister to take more of an interest. "This is just something I'm doing," she said. "We're separate people. We have different hearts. I know she's a great girl, but it's totally up to her." -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.57.84.183
