Soccer的字源要推回到19世紀末 現代足球剛在英格蘭誕生時
當時由於英格蘭足協（The Football Association，縮寫The FA）成立
於是沿用The FA所頒佈的規則（以康橋規則為藍本修改而成的規則）的足球比賽
在當時稱為Association Football 由於這個名號太長了
所以當時的英國人又縮稱為Assoc 這個字就是現在Soccer的字源。
