好不容易可以休假回家, 收到學校寄來的正式信件 (2月27日):
"...Our offer of admission includes full financial support convering
tuition, health insurance and a living stipend throughout your graduate
career...the stipend will be approximately $2050 per month, which is
adjusted annually to keep pace with cost-of-living increases..."

我最近都在部隊忙呀. 三個星期過去了, 總算可以回家鬆口氣.
以前在醫學院學的, 都是在防疫網非常末端的事.
真正發生傳染病大流行時, 人員管制和隔離措施才是最重要的.
我們部隊台,澎,馬幾十個營區, 沒有衛生營,連,排編制,
一共不過六個醫官, 其中連我在內三個在指揮中心 (當然要定期去連隊看看),
光是訂定一個可行的防疫政策就累翻了,
而且還得擔心執行和考核的問題.
比方說隔離營舍, 我們在每一個營區都規劃一棟營舍當作預備用的隔離場所,
可是這還不夠, 還得考慮真有人住進去時該怎麼處理他們的飲食和廢棄物.
前一陣子我們隔離了近百個, 某私立有線電視幾個記者在我們指揮中心大門口亂拍,
我就超幹的, 媽的什麼都不懂, 還說什麼 "看來國軍防疫網出現了漏洞" 咧,
根本是不了解SARS接觸案例是如何分級的.
話說回來, SARS告訴我們演化是一個大課題.
病原體如何演化, 和我們如何影響演化, 都是未解之題.
我一直對演化很有興趣, 說不定明年我會選擇加入
Harvard的Genetics & Genomics研究所也不一定,
這是一個新的領域, 由Dept. of Molecular and Cellular Biology和
Dept. of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology合開.
(我剛收到Graduate School of Arts and Science的Administrative Dean來信,
他已同意我延後至明年秋季入學.)
