Well, Jim wrote all of the music (including the keyboard parts) and
lyrics,
and just asked Kevin to play them live in the studio for a better "feel". They
probably called on Kevin because they've known him a long time (He also played
keys on the album Perfect Symmetry). Kevin has stated in an IRC chat, that he
did add a few little things, embellishments, sound choices, etc. to his playing
for the Fates albim "A Pleasant Shade of Gray", but that the parts were already
written for the most part. Kevin also said that it was good to play some really
technical stuff again, since his current direction is so different.
The new double CD live album, Still Life, is already out and it is a
killer...
