Subject: [themirror] Re: Opinions !?! (I'm back)
Hi again everybody...
Yeah - I'm almost afraid to admit this, but I was the one who first
wrote on the issue "opinions !?!"
But at this point I'm really sorry to see what has happened to the
subject...
I hadn't in my wildest of dreams imagined that it would end up being a
discussion of weather or not KJLB should be in the band - or not... !
All I was trying to say was that I find it rather weird that DT didn't
chose a better recording of one of their shows when they decided to
release OIALT...
To be honest - I'm rather impressed by KJLB's voice - as far as the
studio-recordings...
When it comes to Live-GIG's - I have heard 3 bootleg Live-Albums, and
visited one of DT's Live-shows (Copenhagen, dec.'98)
I'm a singer myself (amateur - of course) - and what KJLB is capable of
doing with his voice is rather impressive...
But - as stated earlier - MP could have done better on selecting the
show for this Live-Album...
That's all for this time... - but trust me - I'll be back if you guys
keep bugging KJLB' voice'
SO - WATCH OUT !!!!!!!!! (must be read "rather sarcastic")

I think that DT is on the same road as Queensryche. It took QR 5 albums
before they were really mainsteam i.e. Silent Lucidty.
With the cult following that DT has I think that they will be able to
continue to record and tour. Hell they are one up on QR. QR didn't start
headlining until the Empire tour.

Hmm. Well i suppose there may be others that could fill the spot but I
think KJLB does a brilliant job and there is no need for anyone else.
Just look at how they sounded on WDADU. I think he's a great, brilliant
even, singer.
Just my opinion,

Why doesn't
> Mr. Myung ever play a solo????? Even when I saw them this year he didn't.
If my memory serves me correctly, I think I read where Myung once stated that
he didn't think the bass was appropriate as a lead instrument.
I think that is his approach. I think that he could do a bass solo in such a
way as to be tasteful.
I'm sure some would disagree, but as good as Billy Sheehan is, I can't stand to
hear him play unaccompanied solos. He sounds like a guitarist playing bass,
except he doesn't use any phrasing, melody or dynamics.
I'm sure Myung could do better. JM does play a lot of cool stuff in the context
of the songs though. It's not like he underplays, and I wouldn't want that
either. Just balance......
It would be cool to hear JM do a short solo (perhaps accompanied by a little
bit of synth in the background). He could start out with playing chords and
then build it up into some fast lead playing, climaxed by the the drums coming
in and him and MP playing off of each other.

Geoff Tate is a phenomenal vocalist. I personally think, that he
doesn't quite fit into DT's style, as similar are the two are, But DT
is on a quite different level musically.
It might be interesting to see DT and Queensryche rub shoulders on
stage.
Might be interesting??!?! sheeet, the two most talented sets of
musicians on the planet on one stage? that would be awesome!!!!!

how does one get " a leg up " ( bad pun, sorry ) on locating these boots? Also,
how does one tree X-mas cds? Is it truely X-mas music?

In a message dated 98-11-05 13:41:48 EST, you write:
<< My beef is that you'd think that with all of the concerts that DT has
performed, that they'd pick one of James's good nights.
>>
It would be very expensive to record every show to try and get James on a
*good* night.

The CD is not made anymore and there are no copies being made that I know
of. Scarred records has the entire Mike Bahr collection on a single CD in
mp3 format. http://scarred.mit.edu
