滙控不排除結束美信用卡

滙控表示，將逐步結束規模達330億美元的美國信用卡業務。
(綜合報道)(星島日報報道)據外電報道，滙控（005）行政總裁歐智華昨表示
，如果無人接盤，滙控將逐步結束（run down）規模達330億美元（約2,574億
港元）的美國信用卡業務，以達到縮減成本及削減零售銀行業務的目標。他重
申，滙控將力保於亞洲地區的競爭力，但承諾不會透過裁員來削減區內成本。
歐智華早前在印尼首都耶加達出席一論壇時表示，對於美國中期經濟前景感到
樂觀，儘管美國信用卡業務盈利能力良好，但持卡人未能與銀行建立更密切的
關係，不能像英港及其他新興市場一樣進行交叉銷售，對集團沒有戰略意義。
他又指，對美國信用卡業務目前仍在檢討中，「若找不到買家，將逐步結束該
業務。」
滙控上月公布瘦身計畫，冀節省35億美元成本，並透過削減零售銀行業務提高
股本回報率。作為節流計畫的一部分，滙豐早前公開表示待價出售美國信用卡
業務，亦有消息指，滙控曾為該業務及紐約分行尋找單一買家，但料能收購如
此規模的買家為數不多。
早前歐智華為集團全球業務訂下五個「一哥」目標，落力發展新興市場，更誓
在香港銀行、內地外資行及環球人民幣業務三大領域做到行內龍頭。滙豐亞太
區行政總裁王冬勝稱，集團投放在新興市場資源主要集中在中國，並已準備好
在內地上市。
滙控指，人民幣貿易結算需求大增，愈來愈多的海外投資者願意持有人民幣。
滙控中國工商金融服務部總經理何舜華同日表示，滙豐四月份處理的人民幣貿
易結算金額比三月份增加四成四。滙控工商金融服務部門全球主管Alan Keir
則料，全球貿易金融業務收入在「可預見的未來」將增加一倍，達50億美元（
約390億港元）。
Keir指，工商金融業務利潤通常佔滙控稅前利潤三分之一左右，年初至今，該
業務三分之二的利潤來自中國和拉丁美洲等快速增長的新興市場，這些市場將
持續成為滙控關注的焦點。

HSBC Will Let U.S. Card Business Run Off If It Can't Find a Buyer

HSBC Holdings PLC will exit the U.S. credit card business whether it
finds a buyer for its $33 billion card portfolio here or not.
The London-based banking conglomerate said last month that it was con-
sidering selling off its card operations here because the business does
not mesh with its focus of serving wealthy individuals and internation-
ally minded commercial customers. On Monday, Reuters reported that HSBC
Chief Executive Officer Stuart Gulliver told reporters at a World Econo-
mic Forum conference in Jakarta that if it cannot find a buyer, HSBC
intends to put the card business "into rundown."
"We need to change the shape of our business," Gulliver said.
Experts have estimated that HSBC could fetch a 12.5% premium on the
portfolio, which consists private-label, co-branded and affinity cards.
Some observers have suggested that major players such as Capital One Fi-
nancial Corp., Bank of America Corp. and JPMorgan Chase & Co., could be
interested in parts of the portfolio. Others have speculated that the
card assets could draw interest from foreign banks looking to establish
a stronger retail presence in the U.S.
As part of its strategic review, HSBC has also said it is considering
selling off retail branches that are outside of major metropolitan mar-
kets.
