"Walter van Beirendonck" ( the designer of W<) and
"Dirk Bikkembergs" both are Belgian and graduated from
dept. of 'mode', Antwerp Royal Academy of Art 安特威普皇家藝術學院
which is a very famous fashion design school in Europe.
the brilliant 'Antwerp Six' are a new wave Avent-garde designers
in paris and milan fashion stage.
another four are Dries van Noten, martin Margiela, Ann Demeulemeester
and Marcel Marrongiu.
they are very inflencing to fashion tendencies and are media focuses
undoubtly have nice benefits of besiness.
W< means
"Wild & Lethal Trash"!!
and pronounce like his nick name 'Walt'
the company estanblished in 1991, began from menswear.
their studio is in Antwerp Belgium, company's office is in Germany
and mostly the clothes are producing in Italy.'Kiss the Future' is their slogan.
Walter has been cooperating with some graphic designers that they
use a lot of cutting-edge computer techniques to creat
a techo-cyber look in fashion.
in his philosaphy: fashion must be low-cost, his collections are
not expensive and why so polular!
but it seem not such low-cost in Taiwan...Sunrise Dep., doesn,t it?
he inspires from toys, mangas, cartoons so much, and create a
funny pet called 'puk puk', it looks like a bee with a big mouse
puk puk appear on his designs very often. you can easily find it
on T-shirts, jackets and bags. in new collection it has new
styles and actions.
i feel Walter is a designer that is gorgeous to introduce
computer techno style into fashion field and till now is influencing!
he builds a internet web site that can interactive with Puk Puk
and issues CD-ROMs seasonly.they are very funny.
i bought 2 from Germany by WWW, if you are interesting to them,
you can contact with me sometimes, but they can only been
using in Apple MAC.
"Dirk Bikkembergs" is starting from menswear as well, now is doing both.
the company is estanblished in 1986.
his atelier is in Antwerp, manufacturers are in Italy, and catwalk
show is in Paris.
I feel his style is cool, heavy and assaultive.
he like to use leather, chains,metal-buttons, pvc and thick wools in
heavy tone to create 'gangster look'.
this kind of materials we used to use them on menswear, but
he also use them to design for women and they just look
pretty and excellent!
although he has a common concept in mens and womens,
but this does not mean to make 'unisex' style.
he is great in tailoring and cutting, for male and female are different
but with same spirit.
Joyce and shiau-ya(小雅) forum have a part of dirk's collection.
go to find out and enjoy it!
