I liked the movie, though it was far from perfect.
The topic was good, and in some parts it went quite into depth,
e.g. the resentment of Aaron's mother and family.
I also liked the fact that not only the intolerance of the Mormons was blamed
in this movie, but also the superficial lifestyle of some part of the gay
society.
As such, it was not only Aaron who had to change his mind and views,
Christian had to as well.
And he did when he agreed to do social services.
What was a bit of a flaw was the scene when Christian hurt himself in the
garden.
It was quite ridiculous. Especially at the point when he put off his
trousers, every man would have disagreed and let him care for himself.
What was really amazing were the nude scenes. It was fun how the scenes were
arranged in such a way that not too much was to be seen.
Reminded me a bit of Mike Myers.
However, the mormon revisions of the film were partly right.
Some aspects of Mormonism were not correct.
It would be nonsense for the Mormons to throw Aaron out.
Why? Because the more you sin, the more feelings of guilt you have,
and the more you can be pressed to compensate that guilt.
As such, Aaron would be a prototype of an obedient missionary,
working even harder and more intensively for the Church in order to
lessen his sin.
Therefore, in reality he would have been sent to another place,
and all his fellow missionaries would have kept two eyes on every of his
movements...
Excommunicating him would have been the strategic worst decision.
Sad, but true.
