SATA發展的幾個重點在於,
提供比PATA更大的頻寬,以供大量傳輸之用(Raid)
更細的排線,更優的對流,多硬碟環境尤其明顯,排線最長可達1M
更低的訊號電壓
提供Hot swap熱插拔功能
還有一些奇奇怪怪的技術
(Native Command Queuing(NCQ);Enclosure Management;Port Multiplier;)
Serial(序列式) 比Parallel(平行式) 的傳輸更有效率
提供一個低價位的Raid系統選擇
缺點在於
現行排線和接口的機械強度不夠
多工性能不佳
沒有SCSI聰明 XD
以上的優點通通不針對一般老百姓,因為沒有這些你還是用的好好的
硬碟要快,
第一就是單碟容量(磁錄密度)
也就是一般人為什麼換了新硬碟會明顯感覺變快
以前單碟40G 80G的跟現在動輒 130G 160G的單碟容量差太多了
另一個就是硬碟上一些哩哩扣扣的晶片效能,日立就是這方面的強者
NCQ的增益? 有啦,不大就是。不會讓你驚為天人
至於高轉速,一般人通常不會使用,就不管了
所以說,頻寬大是沒有用的,他跟系統效能的依存性可以說是沒有

SATA supports legacy drivers for Parallel ATA. OEMs can deploy SATA today
