The Rambus Solution : The Rambus Channel
The RDRAM and the Memory controller
1. Each RAMBUS channel can contain up to 32 RDRAMs.
While the data path is only two bytes wide, the Direct Rambus
Channel is capable of transferring data ate rates up to 800MHz.
2. The direct Rambus DRAM
the Direct RAMBUS is a CMOSDRAM incorporates the Rambus
interface circuitry.
RDRAMs are available in both x16 and x 18 configurations.
A sigle RDRAM provides 1.6GBytes per second peak bendwidth.
3. The Memory controller
The memory controller conrains intelligence and is the
only device that generates request.
Each memory controller has its own Rambus interface.
this interface converts from the low-swing voltage levels used
by Rambus channel to ordinary CMOS logic levels internal to the ASIC.
