SNOW ANGELS
(Words by Jessica Stone/Music by Curtis Brengle)
[In memory of the victims of September 11th. Written 09/14/01]
Beside a river we all know
White dust falls soft like morning snow
We stare, our eyes blank
Frozen on the river bank like statues
Covered in cracks from the impact
Of nothing to lose.
Our numbness crumbles away slowly
In jagged little pieces
Like shards of window glass still falling
After the shuddering ceases.
We speak now of symbols
A hollow empty sound.
3,169 symbols tumbling toward the ground.
And now we stare at a jagged heap
And sorrow chases away our sleep.
Our view of the world is blurred by our tears
By our fears of what we've seen
And promises we now must keep.
I imagine I see the souls of those we lost
Silhouetted in the air by soft white dust.
Encircling the city skyline like snow angels.
Rising up and forgiving the awful crime.
Blowing kisses of farewell
And urging peace in our time.
Peace this time.
Just pick up the pieces this time.
