SUPPERTIME
Duke McGann was a superman
With stardust on his face
He drove around in a super car
To get himself from place to place
She took his love too soon,
It wasn’t planned
And he gave her a baby and a lapis ring,
Singing, “Now I am your man”
She says, “Suppertime is here,
But in the morning are you gonna disappear
Just like the rain in summertime that dries up in the sun?”
Autumn came and the leaves they changed
In colours reflecting life
Yellow and brown on the star stripped ground
Suggesting there could be strife
Winter fell with a doghouse yell
And particles of snow
And the heavy voice of hush grew louder
Rose up, struck down with the plough
And she says, “Suppertime is here,
And one more dream looks likely to disappear
Just like the leaves in wintertime that curl up with snow”
Nowhere to go
No more to say
Nothing to open up and cast away
Summer came around again
And what a year it had been
Something new, something old, something borrowed
Too much she had seen
She says, “Suppertime is here,
And in the morning I’m gonna disappear
Just like the rain in summertime that dries up in the sun
Suppertime is here,
And in the morning I’m gonna disappear
I’ve got to rise early with the stars that fade away”
