Gaslight
(Joyce McDill)
Darkness has fallen without me noticing
The windows reflect our passing gaze
Some gaslight flicker of a moment gone
Wraith-like and hollow
Hiding the honesty
Waiting for solitude
A faint shadow faltering at the threshold
Strained focus sifts the evening air
Dust falls like rain in the slow light
Penalty of sorrow
Fall-out of a distant storm
Waiting for solitude
Behind the clouds the moon stays constant
Bearing the cycle of our days
Hoping for clearer skies tomorrow
Shadowed by the sun’s intoxicating rays
Darkness has fallen without me noticing
The windows reflect our passing gaze
Some gaslight flicker of a moment gone
Wraith-like and hollow
Hiding the honesty
Waiting for solitude
