Eden
(Joyce McDill and Trevor Smith 2003)
We live our lives in a twilight of isolation
We say we're free but we're longing for liberation
We all give glimpses of who we would like to be
We never look so how can we ever see?
Caught in time where hopes and truth collide
Torn apart yet walking side by side
Lost in the half light of fantasy and fact
Craving love but denying its humblest act
I found the place I knew so well
From dreams and child-like yearning
But visitors can surely tell
That Eden is a place of learning.
And so it goes and we live out our separation
Hiding our eyes from the moment of recognition
Turning away from what we hold most dear
Standing alone and tied to a banner of fear
