Matchbox Twenty's Adam Gaynor Ecstatic To Have Stolen Guitar Back

(9/28/00, 6 p.m. ET) - Matchbox Twenty's Adam Gaynor was reunited with
his stolen guitar this afternoon (September 28). Gaynor's translucent
green Taylor acoustic-electric guitar was stolen on September 18 during
a concert in Gainesville, Florida, and was returned undamaged on Monday
(September 25) to nearby Ocala, Florida, radio station WMOP-AM ( LAUNCH,
9/26).
Gaynor and his guitar were brought together at the Hilton Suites Hotel
in Romulus, Michigan, and the guitarist was overjoyed and delighted to
have his instrument back safe and sound.
Gaynor told LAUNCH, "I'm so happy to have this back. I'm not letting it
out of my sight." To prove his point, Gaynor personally carried the
guitar into the band's gig tonight at the Eastern Michigan University
Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Once inside, Matchbox
Twenty's guitar tech took it out of its case and kissed it before
putting it back in the instrument rack. Gaynor and the tech then high-
fived each other, and the entire crew came over to view the guitar as
if it was a returning prodigal six-string son.
Besides returning the guitar, the thief also wrote Gaynor a note which
read, in part: "When I took your guitar, I was not thinking clearly, in
fact I was not thinking at all."
