小說改編，敘述當年 HIV 病毒被發現的過程，一位年輕醫生 Don Francis 為
確認這個從未聽聞的病毒而努力，卻受到各方的排擠、打壓：名利薰心的研究
室大醫師、同性戀團體、血庫銀行等，尤其是觀眾從現在來看當時的亂象，感
覺特別無奈，愛滋病正在 San Francisco 爆發，Francis 醫生一方面發現 HIV
病毒和 B 型的關聯性可做提早發現愛滋病的指標，一方面透過傳染病防治局企
圖封閉公廁，被同性戀團體強烈反彈，另一方面要求所有血庫銀行重新檢驗其
所有血庫血袋，也被強烈質疑程序不合科學、要求更多[同性戀-血液-感染]的
證劇以合理化檢驗血袋的數千萬美金的費用，結果在會中 Francis 就受不了暴
走說：『說清楚! 給我個數字! 你們要多少個死人才會支援計劃？一萬？十萬？
一千萬？說個數字，這樣我在還沒收集到那個數字前決不會再煩你們!...』說
完會中絕對安靜，重新檢驗血袋無條件執行......
