It is said that at the dawn of time, man, beast, and all magical beings lived
under Aeglin, the Father Tree. But man had been created with a hole in his
heart, a hole that no power, riches, or knowledge could fill. And in his
infinite greed, man dreamed of expanding his dominion over the entire earth.
The blood of many an elf, ogre, and goblin was spilled in their bloody war with
 man, and King Balor, the one-armed king of Elfland, watched in sorrow. But the
n one day, the master of the goblin blacksmiths offered to build for the king
a golden mechanical army, seventy times seventy soldiers, that would never know
 hunger, and could not be stopped. Prince Nuada begged his father to agree.
"Build me this army." And a magical crown was forged that would allow those of
 royal blood to command the Golden Army. "I am King Balor, leader of the Golden
 Army. Is there anyone here who disputes my right?" And in his throne room, no
 one challenged him.

電影一開始，領養Hellboy的教授說了上面的那個小故事，一個參著神話與傳說的半寓言
，就像導演上一部電影【羊男的迷宮】，這部電影運用黑暗的傳說，帶領出對真實世界的
省思。人的心是無法被填滿的洞，一份即便再多的權勢、財富或知識都無法滿足的貪婪。
今天下午和師父談論到現在的電影、媒體都是嗜血的，人類文明從開始至今發展到高度商
業化，人類被無法滿足的貪念所驅使，而這種高度的商業化以利益為導向，又幾乎是自取
滅亡的。我相信許多過往有過的價值逐漸消失，一些對自然原始的崇敬正衰敗，我們重視
眼前的利益與越來越多的感官刺激，而這一切都是因為我們認為自己比其他的生物高等，
能夠掌管其他生物的生長環境，所以我們過度的消費地球，追求由人類所建構出來的消費
體系，而將這種滿足轉化成心靈上的滿足，想要填補胸前的空洞。

想想真是很好笑的一件事情。因為即便我可以條理的分析陳列這種現象，但是我個人又何
嘗不是深陷沈溺其中？我們何嘗不是在社會與自我之間掙扎的想找出一個平衡點？我們以
家庭為單位而想遵循社會的ㄧ切禮教規範，而彼此牽制的去破壞這個地球。

所以看這部電影的時候數度都想落淚了。

比如說，真能說Prince Nuada是絕對的惡嘛？

Prince Nuada: [to his father and council members, about humans] Greed had
burned a hole in their hearts that will never be filled. They will never have
enough. Father, you were once a proud warrior. When did you become their pet?
I have returned from exile to wage war and reclaim our land, our birthright!
And for that I will call upon the help of all my people and they will answer.
The good, the bad... [holds up the crown piece]

Prince Nuada: and the worst.

King Balor: [puts a hand to his own crown piece] The Golden Army? You cannot
be that mad!

Prince Nuada: Perhaps I am. Perhaps they made me so

他是彬彬有禮的、高度自律的，並且痛苦於其他的生物、環境因為人類的貪欲而逐漸失去
生存的空間。他是建立在權力、財富、自私上而想終止人類的存在嘛？可能不是。或許只
是他的心並無法再容忍人類的自大與不知感恩，或許只是他可以聽得見萬物求救的微弱呼
喊。他有一種明知不可為卻無法停止的執著，這種性格是種矛盾的存在，叫他能夠去反抗
所有其他的體制。某種程度上相似於水滸傳中的那些被逼迫離開的英雄，因為並不能說哪
一套標準應該被遵守。固然滅亡人類是個殘忍的惡念，但是人類的所作所為又何嘗不是另
一種惡？人類的自溺，使之已失去與其他萬物溝通
的本能。所以這部電影有趣的一個地方在於，雖然某些的情節處理是過度簡化的，但是它
並沒有簡單的區分出善惡。什麼是善，什麼又是惡？人類又可以站在多宏觀的角度去處理
事情，去看待異己呢？

中間「森林之神」的部份讓我想起宮岐駿在【神隱少女】之中所作的處理。生命的開始與
生命滅亡的輪迴，電影在這部份的場景處理的很美，但是我還是喜歡神隱少女裡面呈現的
那份完整與詩意。而生與死本來就是一體兩面的事情，能說生真的是開始，而死亡真的是
終止嘛？某部份的開啟或許也是種終結，而停止之後也或許在其他的部份是被全然開啟進
入的。

Liz Sherman: Can you save him?
Angel of Death: It is for you to decide. It is all the same to me, my heart is
 filled with dust and sand. But you should know, it is his destiny to bring
about the destruction of the Earth...not now, not tomorrow but soon enough.
Knowing that, you still want him to live?
[Liz pauses]
Angel of Death: So, child, make the choice. The world, or him?
Liz Sherman: Him.
Angel of Death: The time will come, and you, my dear, will suffer more than
anyone.
Liz Sherman: I'll deal with it Now save him.
Angel of Death: It is done.
[The Angel removes the spearhead from Hellboy's chest]
Angel of Death: I have done what I can, now give him a reason to live.

人物的造型部份，我最喜歡死亡天使了，與羊男的迷宮中的人物非常相似。翅膀上齊開的
眼睛，還有說起話像是古希臘寓言的方式。在這裡Angel of
Death給了一段讓我覺得十分迷人的諭，他問Liz，「倘若Hellboy的宿命是毀滅地球，妳仍
要他活下嘛？而即使妳屆時會感到無邊巨大的苦痛，妳還是要他活下嘛？」Liz毫不猶豫的
說，「是的，請讓他活下。」事情發生必然有因果，而或許人的存在與碰撞也都有其各自
的宿命。但倘若我們已經預知了會發生的宿命，我們有能力去抗拒嘛？在一般的情況底下
我們是看不清楚的，但是如果能夠看清楚，是不是其實我們仍舊會做完全一樣的抉擇？

所以人的心是無法被填滿的洞，從有慾望的開始，或許只有全然毀滅能夠將其終止。
