歌詞是在說謀殺到底有多簡單。

拿命線索裡的兩個兇手是隨機抽樣選擇被害者的，
用Murder By Numbers當片名，
應該是指兩位主角的謀殺計畫很簡單、很隨意吧。

「完美犯罪」，於是綁架殺害了他們認識的Robert Franks（15歲）。
