Allegory is an "extended narrative that carries a second meaning along
with the surface story." (Beckson, 8) For examples, Melville's _Moby Dick_,
Bunyan's _Pilgrim's Progress_, or the medieval morality play _Everyman_.
It requires a long narrative and thus differs from allusion or symbol.
