[請益] 關於英詩的"對仗"......

嗯，是這樣的

我同學"堅信"英詩是沒有"對仗"這種東西的...orz

他認為"對仗"是中國詩詞才有的東西

我要怎麼反駁他啊......囧

應該說，我要怎麼跟他解釋英詩中"對仗"的概念??

要怎麼讓他了解"對仗"不是中國文學獨有的東西??

最好是有一些例子orz

我翻了翻精華區才發現

我對這方面的知識其實也不太夠

只是因為我同學的英文真的爛爛爛爛爛到不行

聽他這樣說有點火=.=+

請各位前輩指導一下吧orz

完全和中文一樣的對仗當然沒有，因為英文不是中文。

但挾制音韻、節奏的格式還是有的，例如史詩用到的 heroic couplets；
不知道他對這種格式的看法是……？

以下摘自 "The Knight's Portrait"（Chaucer）前四行。

        A knyght ther was, and that a worthy man,
        That fro the tyme that he first bigan
        To riden out, he loved chivalrie,
        Trouthe and honour, fredom and curteisie.

每行十個音節，一、二行和三、四行節奏、音節輕重幾乎一模一樣；
一、二行壓韻，三、四行壓韻，然後每行各自可以獨自表達一個情境。

如果他對中、英文詩之間的比較有興趣，請他不要害羞，
這裡隨時歡迎他來玩耍。^^

  我稍微補充一點，真正 Heroic Couplet 的全盛時代是到 Restoration 1660以後，
尤其是 Alexander Pope 堪稱這種英雄雙行體之王。 他以這種形式做出了荷馬史詩
的翻譯。可以去Project Gutenberg下載。還有一個特徵，就是每兩行後以標點符號結尾
，稱為 closed. 在此舉出戲仿英雄體 Rape of the Lock 描述的一段:

On her white Breast a sparkling Cross she wore,
Which Jews might kiss, and Infidels adore.
Her lively Looks a sprightly Mind disclose,
Quick as her Eyes, and as unfix'd as those:
Favours to none, to all she Smiles extends,
Oft she rejects, but never once offends.
Bright as the Sun, her Eyes the Gazers strike,
And, like the Sun, they shine on all alike.

  事實上，還曾經有七音步的俳句風行一時，尤其是在 Queen Elizabeth I 的時代，
稱之 fourteener, 亦即一行擁有十四音節。在George Chapman的Homer 翻譯，或是以下
Arthur Golding翻譯Ovid 的 Metamorphoses:

 Then sprang up first the golden age, which of it selfe maintainde
The truth and right of every thing unforct and unconstrainde.
There was no feare of punishment, there was no threatning lawe
In brazen tables nayled up, to keepe the folke in awe.
There was no man would crouch or creepe to Judge with cap in hand,
They lived safe without a Judge, in everie Realme and lande.

這樣講好像是說在 Restoration 之前就有所謂的 heroic couplets，只是到當時
才興盛起來。應該說 "heroic couplet" 是 17 世紀末到18世紀初才有的詞兒。
Dryden 翻譯 Virgil 的 Aeneid 於 1697 年問世；Pope 翻譯 Homer 的 Iliad 於
1715 年付梓；翻譯 Odyssey 於 1727 年出版。都是使用 iambic pentameter couplets。
因為 epics 又稱為 "heroic poems"，故人們把他們使用的 rhyme scheme 稱之為
heroic couplet。當時蔚為風潮，劇作家為使悲劇英雄的話聽起來更「英雄」，故紛紛
使用之。但因為太流行了，很多不怎麼「英雄」的詩也採用。後來在追溯前人有無使用
這種 rhyme scheme 時，才會說 Chaucer 是始祖。但要注意的是 14 世紀當時並無
heroic couplet ㄧ詞。
