Song From a Storyteller
1. From the Storyteller to the Audience
August is a damn good month, breeding
The bluest sea and crowded beach, mixing
Sweat and desire, squeezing
Piles of cloud to rain
In the afternoon.
Summer no longer surprises me;
Recently the shower comes so puntuately
Like a train.
I can't stand it anymore and badly
Want to smoke.
As I lighted my cigarette,
Someone patted my shoulders & said,
"Sorry, Miss. Smoking is not allowed on this train.
You have to pay the fine, that is,
Telling three stories to us,
To all the pessengers and me."
Since he look'd not so friendly and
I had no chance to run away from here,
I could only obey his rule.
So that's why I'm here
Before you, my gracious audience.
I'm a storyteller with no name,
A storyteller without fame.
I come from nowhere,
Suddenly brought on this train.
A fool you may call me if you like,
For I really don't know when all these have begun.
However, the beginning is not very important;
What counts now is my assignment.
I have to tell you three stories;
Each shall be hardly believed.
Thought it may arouse your amazement,
It's all make-believed.
The thing you can believe is called truth;
That's not the end a story goes for.
Hence I beseech you, my good audience;
Do not trust every word you've heard,
Or I shall be punished,
And all my stories won't get published.
Now I'm going to tell my first story;
It'd be so kind of you to put your attention on me.
The story's about Mariana, a lovely girl,
But often wrapp'd her face
In the deppest sorrow
Until one day someone pass'd her by,
And that has chang'd all her life.
