Stop crying, it was never meant to be;
You knew it wasn't, yet maintained pursuit.
O Decadence! that beckons when you see
Her round cupped face and pouting lips so cute!
You lost yourself in her sarcastic wit,
Delusioned that together you would have
A future----signs and premonitions flit
About your head, but love had made you brave.
The days in palaver and banter spent;
In night amorous memories were made;
Now days are filled with chit-chat reticent,
And nights insomniac, passion a blade.
You knew----how well you knew!----your wretched end,
But ne'er will you this chosen path amend.
