Wrong, both are for arrays.
AIPS was originally designed for continuum observations. MIRIAD
is more powerful on spectral line observations. But they are both
for arrays. If you like, you can reduce VLA data with MIRIAD.
I did this before. Some of my VLA spectral line analysis was done
in MIRIAD.
