D rings were one of the most important features of running shoes
in the mid70's.
They were used to fasten and take off the shoes lace more quickly.
You can also find D rings on Nike Sting.
By the way, the Adidas SL76 was 5 stars running shoes selected
by Runner's world magazine in 1976 and Nike Sting is the king of
vintage Nike running shoes.
