Hi, first of all I would like to congratulate you for being highly regarded by the MSU prof.
Based on reading his mesage, he seems to be a very friendly and thoughtful prof.
I would, thus, advise you not to be worried about him calling you at all;
he likely will just give you a courtesy call and see what your final decision is.
He must have been really impressed by your application package; none of my American profs had ever called me.
