第一段 關於新專輯題材方面
So you're putting the finishing touches to some new material,
you've been writing?
We've been writing for about a year now, and we've written about thirty
songs, something like that, a huge amount of songs, and I'm just basically
filtering them all through and making sure they're good enough.
But we're still carrying on writing at the moment, we're not going into
the studio till June.
You did roadtest some of the songs though, didn't you,
in Iceland last October?
We did a gig out there and the whole point of it was just to play a few
numbers away from the media to be honest, and just try a few things out
cos it was still work in progress and it wasn't the intention to have,
oh here is the finished album. Half the songs we played there probably
won't be on the album. Sometimes you get a different perspective on a song
when you're playing it in front of an audience. You take it away from the
quiet, sterile surroundings of a rehearsal room and
it becomes a very different song in front of a crowd.
We were kind of seeing which songs worked best like that.
Can you see yourself doing more of that?
If you're a band I think it's really important to test stuff out on a
udiences, yeah definitely.

關於新成員
Talking of the band, of course, slight change in line-up
because Neil Codling's left. Who's in his place?
A guy called Alex Lee who used to be in Strangelove.
He's no stranger to you though is he?
No he's not, he's been playing with us for well over a year cos Neil's been very ill for about four years now, which made kind of promoting the last album pretty hard. Alex filled in for him on the last European tour. So Alex has played with us a lot and he's been writing with us as well.
Are you doing this as a team effort
or are you going away and doing bits and pieces on your own?
What happened was I felt as though I had to really get away from London to start to get my head together to write the album. I sometimes find London really unhealthy and stifling creatively. You know, you get people coming round and stuff. I needed just to get my own space and go out to the countryside and think about the kind of record I wanted to make. So that's what I did. And then recently we've just been rehearsing a lot and doing a lot of band stuff.

What next, have you got a date for when you start recording the record?
We're gonna be starting recording it in about, well June the first
I think is when we start it.
Throw us a couple of track titles, have you named the songs or
do they have all those work in progress titles like "slow one" and "fast one"?
There's a couple of things, there's a song called "Shout" which
I really like, which I think is a good tune. There's a good song
called "Positivity" and lots of them have been written down from when
we did that gig in Iceland.
Is it right that Tony Hoffer who I didn't realise had done
the last Beck album, is involved as producer, is that right?
Yeah, we were out in Rockfield a couple of months ago doing
some stuff with him, and he's gonna be here on Friday and we're gonna do
some more things with him. But yeah we got on really well with him
and he's quite an interesting young man.
Any live dates, are you gonna do anything live?
No, nothing planned, I kind of want to get out before the album's out.
Like with the last one we didn't play for ages, cos we were doing festivals
and that. So there's talk of doing a couple of fanclub things and low-key
things.
They work well for you, you've done a few in the past?
Yeah, it's always quite a good vibe, we've got a lot of really committed fans and it's always quite good fun.
What are you listening to at the moment, just out of interest?
I was playing bit of Cibo Mato, I really like them and i was playing a bit of Outkast and Echoboy, the first Echoboy album.
