SUEDE vocalist BRETT ANDERSON made his first live performance of 2001
last night (June 24), as part of the MELTDOWN FESTIVAL in LONDON.
Anderson - who as shown in our exclusive photo has bleached his hair -
appeared as a guest vocalist at the 'Robert Wyatt Soup Song Tribute'
event at the London Royal Festival Hall. The night was billed as a
tribute to Meltdown curator Robert Wyatt and his music.
The singer was joined on stage by new bandmember Alex Lee and producer
Tony Hoffer to perform a cover of the track 'Sea Song'. Lee provided
guitars for the song, while Hoffer appeared to be working with a sampler.
An eyewitness told NME.COM:
"It was a strange, kind of avant-garde jazz show, but Brett stormed
onto the stage just before the interval and belted out this amazing
song. It was great to watch, really captivating."
Anderson, who has recently bleached his hair bright blonde, was dressed
in a pair of pale jeans and dark fitted T-shirt.
Suede have covered Robert Wyatt once before - they recorded a version
of 'Shipbuilding', which later featured on the 1995 War Child charity
compilation album 'Help'.
Tony Hoffer will produce the as-yet-untitled new Suede album, which is
being recorded now and is due for release later this year, or at the
start of 2002.
