Saturn in a chart is something of a heavyweight restrictive influence. It
is the planet of fear & limitation. It shows us our weaknesses & the nature
of our burdens. It is the 'great teacher of lessons' & the planet of karma.
If you like, imagine it as the 'inner' strict headmistress in us all!
In Neil's chart, Saturn is found in Cancer. Now the sign of the crab is
usually an emotional one but here Saturn dampens down that passion &
tenderness. This is the placement of the stereotypically reserved English
gentleman (think Steed in "The Avengers"). Feelings are kept under control
& are rarely seen. The nature is self-preserving, protective & defensive.
Neil's emotions are rather like the ocean which appears quiet & calm on the
surface but strong currents exist deeper in & cannot be seen by the casual
observer. Neil is not a demonstrative chap. You won't find him topless &
groping his loved one in the park beneath rare British sunshine! Neil keeps
himself to himself yet is capable of loving very deeply. He is shy but
paternalistic in manner. Cancer is the sign of the family & Neil is very
much drawn to his, for better or for worse. Strong ties & obligations exist
there which are almost impossible to break. His family may well be both a
burden & a source of security. As a parent he may be a devoted but exacting
father.
