The correct answer is the idiom: Get the better of me. 'The best' isn't
possible, I'm afraid.

I'm afraid I'd disagree. Both 'get the better of me' and 'get the best of me'
are in use.

推 fleuve:both of them are in use, but they have different
→ fleuve:meanings.
→ fleuve:"sth get the best of sb" means sth defeats sb
→ fleuve:it doesn't fit the context.
→ sitifan:had better = had best
→ sitifan:get the best of sb = get the better of sb.
