標題[解題] 龍騰高三第五課 three days to see by helen keller

有一句文法我有點疑問
But I am denied *that* deeper understanding of them which I am sure would
come through sight of them, through watching their reactions to various
expressed thoughts and circumstances, through noting the immediate
and fleeting reactions of their eyes and facial expressions.
這句話的that 龍騰的參考書解釋如下
「本句中that所領導的部分即為一名詞子句，作為deny的受詞。」
我怎麼看都覺得不對
好像只是單純的指定代名詞吧?
如果是名詞子句的話 我看不到that名詞子句裡的動詞在哪
麻煩板上各位先進了
