I think it's bascially the same as teaching English reading.
First, you can ask her to read it out loud, or you can read it to her
Second, you can ask her the main idea of the paragraph or several paragraphs.
You can also check her listening comphrehension ability if you read the story
to her. At this point, you can also ask her to predict what the author might
talk about in the following paragraphs.
Third, ask her some detail questions. Use "when, how, who what, why" to ask
your questions.
Fourth, pick out some of the important sentences, words to talk about.
你不一定要交待她回家預習,你可以和她一起讀
家教要交待作業幾乎是Mission Impossible,強制力太低了
所以建議你將你期望學生會自動做好的事融入課程
如:一起讀,然後叫她講故事大意
如:遇到不會的字,叫她查字典,或是從上下文猜字意
有的小說讀本還會附朗讀CD,一起聽也不錯
有時還可以訓練她寫作能力:叫她當場寫下summary之類的
別把講述的工作都交給自己
