※ 引述《stukpe (風)》之銘言:
: 標題: [國中] in a ferry 或是 on a ferry?
: 時間: Mon Oct 11 16:12:15 2010
:
:
: 只是國中生都會要有所謂的"正確"答案,
: 只好告訴他們,"考試時"應該選擇哪一個答案,不過在許可範圍內(就我知道的部份)
: 我都會告訴他們實際情況可能有不一樣的用法,像是there is/are的用法
: 在傳統以及考試的偏好下,一向是There is + 單數或不可數名詞
: There are + 複數名詞
: 但實際上,從板上或其他板得知,近來的習慣的用法是
: There is/are + 名詞。動詞的決定由第一個名詞決定,而非整體名詞,
:
: 考試要考"正確"的用法,而非習慣,只好兩種跟他們說,但強調考試時應該寫的答案。
there's / there is接單一個複數名詞還可以說是口語非正式用法,
但there is + N, N, and N.這種接多個名詞卻不見得不「正確」...
多數的文法書只是籠統的說There's + 複數名詞是口語,
但卻沒有去處理There is + N, N, and N.的問題...
我看<<Practical English Usage>>和<<A Comprehensive Grammar of The English
Language>>似乎都沒談到,有的話還請告訴我一下,因為書實在很厚,我難免翻漏~
但<<Longman Grammar of Spoken and written English>>
2007年第六刷版第186頁有一段關於there is的:
A sigular of be is often followed by coordinated noun phrases in the
written registers:
[There] was a huge cake in the dining room, and a band playing outside.
(FICT)
When he left an hour later [there] was no shrug and not much of a smile.
(NEWS)
Where a singular noun phrase follows immediately after be, singular concord is
the more frequent choice in both speech and writing. This is no doubt a
proximity effect.
而且BBC的英語學習網站在回答讀者疑惑時也是寫:
The general rule is that the verb form matches the item(s) that it is
adjacent to
另外再舉了either..or..為例,顯然它認為there is/are主動詞一致的處理,
和either..or..是一樣的,和上面朗文文法說的proximity不謀而合~
