標題[問題] 兩題文法題

When I arrived, everybody was sitting round the table and talking. There
mouths were empty, but their stomachs were full. They had been eating. (eat)
上面那個句子為什麼要用 had been eating?
Did you use to eat a lot of sweets when you were a child?
這題是因為前面有助動詞Did，所以才用use to 而不是used to的嗎?
麻煩高手為我解惑一下 謝謝！
