標題[解題] 主動詞一致的問題

同時在同份考卷上看到兩題類似的題目，但be卻不一樣，所以產生疑惑了。
1. The last Olympic Games was held...
2. The modern Olympic Games were held...
有人知道為什麼第一句be動詞用was，第二句卻用were嗎？
3.The number of students using the library ____ before the exams and falls
at once afterwards.
(a) rises (b) arises
第三題不知道大家會選哪個答案。 我選(a)，而答案是(b)。
我記得rise也有上升；增加的意思，而arise則是引起；發生的意思。
