before 跟 until 的文法位置其實蠻像的
他們都是 function word
其中 都可以被當成為conjunction 連接兩個子句
所以在這兩題中 才會覺得文法都ok
可是 問題就出在 句意了
before強調的時間點是
"earlier than a particular time" or
"the time in the past"
也就是動作的進行比特定的時間還要早 或者是 已經發生在一段已經過去的時間
until是
"happening or done up to a particular point in time, and then stopping."
就是動作的進行或發生是持續到特定的時間 然後停止
所以 在第一題中
Let's try to get everything ready "before" our guests come.
不選用until的原因是因為 .
既然題幹都說是 "get everything ready"
那就是說 在客人來"之前" 要把所有事情給準備好
而不是等到客人來還在準備 而選until就會有出現這樣的意思 與題義就不合了
再來第二題
Most of us can't do things well _________ we have practiced a lot.
因為 現在完成式有動作持續的意思 如果選before
就變成有
"在多次的練習這時間點後(之後就沒有練習了) 不管隔了多久 才會把事情完成"的意義
與題義不和
則until就有 "直到我們有了多次的練習 我們才會把事情做好"的意思
練習的動作是持續的 一直到事情完成才停止
所以until比較適合
